Cranford Firefighters Create Scholarship For UCC Students

The scholarship provides financial support for a firefighter or their family member to obtain an associate degree at Union County College.

CRANFORD, NJ — The Cranford Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association, Local 37 has established a scholarship to provide financial support for a firefighter or their family member to obtain an associate degree at Union County College.

The Cranford Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association has donated to the Union County College Foundation since 1997.

The first award from this scholarship will be given one year after the completion of the endowment, which is scheduled for fall 2018. To qualify for the scholarship, a Union student must be taking a full or part-time schedule of classes. They must be a firefighter or a family member of someone in the Fire Service, either paid or volunteer.

Cranford residents will be given first preference; however, if there is no one to fulfill that criteria, the scholarship will be open to anyone in Union County that meets the other requirements of the scholarship.

"Firefighters are vital to the safety and well-being of the towns of Union County. By establishing
this scholarship, the Foundation can distribute funds to support the educational needs of firefighters," said
Union County College President Margaret M. McMenamin.
