Cranford Local Among 9 Arrested For Heroin, Drugs
Cranford Police arrested 9 on drug related charges including possession of heroin, marijuana, prescription drugs and hypodermic needles.

CRANFORD, NJ — Cranford Police arrested nine people on drug related charges, including possession of heroin, marijuana, prescription drugs and hypodermic needles.
On Dec. 11 at 7:53 p.m.: A 2002 Lincoln was stopped at Centennial Avenue at Hayes Street for having a brake light out. Following an investigation the passenger, Michael Silva, 35, of Elizabeth was found to be in possession of heroin and paraphernalia. Silva was arrested for possession of a controlled dangerous substance (heroin) and possession of paraphernalia, processed and released pending a superior court hearing. The driver was issued a motor vehicle summons for having a brake light out.
On Dec. 12 at 7:45 p.m.: A 2014 Chevrolet was stopped at North Avenue East at Carpenter Place for failing to use a directional signal. Following an investigation passenger, Elias Rivera, 24, of Long Branch was found to be in possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. Rivera was arrested for possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia, processed and released pending a municipal court hearing. The driver was issued a motor vehicle summons for failing to signal and driving while suspended.

On Dec. 13 at 8:16 p.m.: A 2007 Mitsubishi was stopped at North Avenue East at Carpenter Place for a seat belt violation. Following an investigation the driver, Matthew Enz, 27, of Avenel, and the passenger, Roberto Espaillat, 26, of Colonia were found to be in possession of oxycondone, marijuana and paraphernalia. Espaillat and Enz were arrested for possession of a controlled dangerous substance (oxycodone), possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia, processed and released pending a superior court hearing. Espaillat was also issued motor vehicle summonses for operating and unregistered vehicle, operating an uninsured vehicle, and not wearing a seat belt.
On Dec. 14 at 10:47 p.m.: A 2002 Honda was stopped at Walnut Avenue at Mitchell Place for failing to keep right. Following an investigation the driver, Robert Horvath Jr., 20, of Clark was found to be in possession of prescription drugs without having a prescription. Horvath was arrested for possession of prescription legend drugs and possession of paraphernalia, processed and released pending a superior court hearing. Horvath was also issued motor vehicle summonses for careless driving, failing to keep right and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a vehicle.

On Dec. 15 at 11:40 p.m.: A 2016 Hyundai was stopped on North Avenue West at Eastman Street for parking on the wrong side of the road and in the lane of travel. Following an investigation the driver, Samiyyah Muhammad, 27, of Linden was found to be intoxicated. Muhammad was arrested for driving while intoxicated, processed and released pending a municipal court hearing. Muhammad was also issued motor vehicle summonses for careless driving, delaying traffic, vision obstruction and failure to present driving credentials.
On Dec. 16 at 3:23 a.m.: A 2016 Tesla was stopped at Centennial Avenue at Grant Street for parking in the lane of traffic. Following an investigation the driver, Kimberly Ramos, 37, of Fanwood was found to be asleep and intoxicated. Ramos was arrested for driving while intoxicated, processed and released pending a municipal court hearing. Ramos was charged with driving while intoxicated. Ramos was also issued motor vehicle summonses for delaying traffic and careless driving.
On Dec. 16 at 10:06 a.m.: Police observed a man and a woman sleeping in a parked vehicle on Jackson Drive. Following an investigation the driver, Anthony Tene, 27, of Pittsburgh, Pennslyvania was found to be in possession of heroin and a hypodermic syringe. Tene was arrested for possession of a controlled dangerous substance (heroin) and possession of a hypodermic syringe, processed and released pending a superior court hearing.
On Dec. 16 at 3:38 p.m.: A 1995 Oldsmobile was stopped for careless driving on Lincoln Avenue East at Lawn Terrace. Following an investigation the driver, Kenneth Meier, 25, of Cranford and the passenger, Jason Hay, 22, of Garwood were found to be in possession of heroin and paraphernalia. Meier and Hay were arrested for possession of a controlled dangerous substance (heroin) and possession of paraphernalia, processed and released pending a superior court hearing.
On Dec. 17 at 4:13 a.m.: A 2013 BMW was stopped at Raritan Road at Centennial Avenue for a red light violation. Following an investigation the driver, Jerel Johnson, 25, of Plainfield was found to be intoxicated. Johnson was arrested for driving while intoxicated, processed and released pending a municipal court hearing. Johnson was also issued motor vehicle summonses for failing to observe a traffic signal, not wearing a seat belt, and careless driving.
On Dec. 17 at 3:14 p.m.: A 2001 Chevrolet was stopped at Jackson Drive at Moen Avenue for not having a driver’s side mirror. Following an investigation the driver, Markeith Mclaurin, 27, of East Orange was found to be in possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. Mclaurin was arrested for possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, processed and released pending a municipal court hearing. Mclaurin was also issued motor vehicle summonses for possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, failure to exhibit driving credentials and not having a driver’s side mirror.
