Cranford Man Assaulted Officer, Resisted Arrest: Cops

Solomon Armstrong was arrested after an altercation with police, authorities said.

CRANFORD, NJ - A 24-year-old Cranford man was arrested after striking a Cranford police officer during a traffic stop on March 16, according to authorities.

Cranford Police said that Patrolmen Christopher Gross and James Knight stopped a 2007 Nissan on South Avenue East for a seat belt violation. Following an investigation on scene, Gross arrested a passenger of the vehicle, Solomon Armstrong, for obstruction of justice, resisting arrest and aggravated assault, police said. According to authorities, Armstrong struck Knight.

Armstrong was processed with official charges of aggravated assault on a police officer, obstruction of administration of justice and resisting. He was provided with a Superior Court appearance date. In addition, he was issued a summons for a seat belt violation, police said.
