Cranford Man Found Sleeping In Car, Arrested For DWI: Police
A Cranford man was among two people arrested last week for driving while intoxicated in separate incidents in the borough, police report.

CRANFORD, NJ — A Cranford man was found sleeping in his car and arrested for driving while intoxicated last week, police report.
On June 12 at 6:37 p.m., patrol units responded to a W. South Avenue establishment, for the report of a person sleeping in the driver seat of a motor vehicle.
Following an investigation at the scene, Patrolman Brian Trotter determined that the driver, Robert Baer, 26, of Cranford was operating the vehicle while under the influence, Cranford Police reported.

Baer was arrested for driving while intoxicated and use and/or being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance, processed and released to a friend pending a Municipal Court appearance.
Baer was issued a motor vehicle summons for driving while intoxicated.

On June 14 at 1:03 a.m.: While on routine Patrol, Patrolman Timothy Handy located a suspicious motor vehicle in the area of John Street and E. North Avenue. Following an investigation at the scene, Patrolman Handy determined that the driver, Mateusz Pawlak, 24, of Rahway was operating while under the influence. Pawlak was arrested for driving while intoxicated, processed, and released to a friend pending a Municipal Court appearance. Additionally, Pawlak was issued motor vehicle summonses for driving while intoxicated and failure to exhibit documents.
On June 14 at 3 p.m.: A 1999 Nissan was stopped at the intersection of Walnut Avenue and Lenhome Drive for a seatbelt violation. Following an investigation at the scene, Patrolman Brian Lopez determined that a passenger, Kervin Destra, 28, of Elizabeth had an active arrest warrant out of Elizabeth Municipal Court. Subsequent to arrest, it was determined that Destra was in possession of marijuana and cocaine. Destra was processed for possession of a controlled dangerous substance(Cocaine), possession of marijuana(under 50 grams), possession of paraphernalia and contempt of court, and released on his own recognizance on the Elizabeth warrant. Destra was issued a Superior Court appearance. The driver was issued a motor vehicle summons for failure to wear seat belt.
On June 14 at 3:11 p.m.: A 2000 Nissan was stopped at the intersection of W. South Avenue and Elise Street for a seat belt violation. Following an investigation at the scene, Patrolman Ali Muhammad located marijuana inside the vehicle. The driver, Lyle Dungee, 31, of Plainfield was arrested for possession of marijuana (under 50 grams) and possession of paraphernalia, processed and released pending a Municipal Court appearance. Dungee was issued motor vehicle summonses for driving while suspended, possessing a controlled dangerous substance inside a motor vehicle and failure to wear a seatbelt.
