Cranford Man Indicted For Sexual Assault Of Motel Employee: Prosecutor

The Cranford man attacked the female employee, who was bringing more towels to his Atlantic City motel room at his request: prosecutor.

CRANFORD, NJ — A Cranford man was indicted for the 2016 sexual assault of an Atlantic City motel employee, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner announced.

John C. Ryan, then 27, of Cranford was indicted on March 16 by an Atlantic County Grand Jury on three criminal counts:

  • Sexual Assault—a crime of the 2nd degree,
  • Criminal Restraint—a 3rd degree crime, and
  • Aggravated Assault. By attempting to cause significant bodily injury—3rd degree.

Ryan could face 5 to 10 years in prison for the 2nd degree conviction and 3 to 5 years for the 3rd degree conviction.

The incident occurred on June 13, 2016 at 4:16 p.m. when Atlantic City Police responded to the Knight’s Inn on Pacific Avenue, Atlantic City, for a report of an assault to an employee by a hotel guest.

The adult female victim and motel employee had visible injuries to the face, police reported on arrival.

She reported that she had been attacked by the male guest, later identified as Ryan, when she responded to his request of management to have towels delivered to his room.

Ryan has reportedly fled the scene when another employee heard muffled cries for help coming from the room, and entered the room. The victim was treated for her injuries at the Shore Medical Center.

Ryan was identified, located and arrested on July 21, 2016, and lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility on $250,000 bail set by Atlantic County Superior Court Judge Patricia M. Wild. Ryan subsequently posted bail and was released.
