Cranford Man Robbed Bank, Threatened Bomb Explosion: Police

Breaking: Karl ​Schlenker​ ​allegedly passed a note to the teller, demanded cash, and said he had a bomb, police say.

CRANFORD, NJ — A Cranford man was arrested Monday for robbing a bank in Ohio and threatening to blow up a bomb if authorities were called, police reported.

Karl Schlenker, 60, of Cranford was arrested Feb. 13 outside of his home and charged with robbery and grand theft stemming from the bank robbery at PNC Bank in Grandview Heights, Ohio on Jan. 31, police reported.

Schlenker passed a note to the teller, demanded cash, and said he had a bomb that would detonate if the authorities were notified. Schlenker then left a bag that supposedly contained the bomb next to the exit door, Grandview Heights Police Sgt. Ryan Starns reported.

Schlenker was processed at Cranford Police Department Headquarters, and subsequently transported to Union County Jail pending an Extradition Hearing.

The Grandview Heights(OH) Police Department is continuing its investigation in this matter.
