Cranford Police Receive $5,000 Donation for Body Armor

"The cost of equipping our members with body armor is sizeable, ... a small price to pay to help ensure their safety"

CRANFORD, NJ — The Cranford Knights of Columbus Council 6226 made a $5,000 donation to the Cranford Police Department to offset the costs of body armor.

All sworn officers are issued body armor at an expense of close to $1,000 per officer. The body armor needs to be replaced at regular intervals due to manufacturer guidelines.

“The Cranford Knights of Columbus has been a devoted supporter of the men and women of the Cranford Police Department," Cranford Police Chief James Wozniak said the following about the donation. "As an organization we are committed to the safety of all of our officers. In these times, far too many officers in this country are being killed on almost a daily basis. We have to take every precaution to make sure our members go home at the end of their shifts.

"The cost of equipping our members with body armor is sizeable, but as far as I’m concerned, a small price to pay to help ensure their safety. The generous donation by the Cranford Knights of Columbus will help us keep five of our officers safe for years to come," Wozniak continued.
