CRANFORD, NJ - The Cranford Police Department is warning residents about a phone scam where the caller is claiming to be representative from a local utility company.
According to authorities, multiple members of the Cranford community called Police Headquarters advising them that they have received phone calls from a person claiming to be an employee of the Elizabethtown Gas Company.
The caller tells the potential victim there is an inquiry with their bill and to call another number to rectify the issue.

Elizabethtown Gas told the Cranford Police that they are not affiliated with this number.
Authorities are reminding residents not give any personal information to any third parties over the phone and if they suspect a call is a scam, offer to call them back and utilize the official phone numbers for the utilities or credit card companies.
