The Cranford Public Library Celebrates National Friends of Libraries Week

October 18 - October 24, 2015

The week of October 18 to 24 is National Friends of Libraries Week, a good time to join the Friends of the Cranford Public Library. The Cranford Friends organization was established in 1979 and has raised more than $300,000 for the library to date. Membership currently numbers 427, and more than 40 members actively volunteer their time to assist the group with fundraising efforts, including the Friends’ used book sales. “The library has always played such an important role in my life and in my family’s life,” said Friends President Tony Cirillo. “I truly enjoy being able to give something back—and being an active member of this group is fun!” Other officers of the organization include Chris Haun, Vice President, Ted Spitz, Treasurer, Gill Newton, Secretary, Jill Schulz, Corresponding Secretary, Barbara Ugenti, Book Sale Chair, Madeline Spitz, Fundraising Chair, Amy Plotkin, Program Chair, and Jean Kreiling, Publicity Chair. “Our library would be much poorer without the Friends,” said library director John Malar. “The funds they raise definitely put the icing on the cake. I think most patrons would be surprised to learn how many of the services and programs they enjoy are supported by the Friends.” A one-year membership in the Friends of the Cranford Public Library costs only $10.00 ($5.00 for students and senior citizens). Membership applications are available at the library or by clicking here.
