CRANFORD, NJ — Peter Migliorini, 94, who lives in Cranford, was honored recently in advance of this week's 75th anniversary of the armistice of World War II. (The armistice, or end of the war, is celebrated on Aug. 14, "V-J Day.")

Migliorini was drafted into World War II at age 18 and served at the Battle of the Bulge, which took place starting in late 1944 near the Belgian border. The battle, which continued into January of 1945, was the last major German offensive campaign on the Western Front. The German forces ultimately collapsed.

A student in Westfield, Michael Naya, had reached out to Westfield Mayor Shelley Brindle to ask if Migliorini could be honored as one of the oldest World War II veterans in the area. He had lived in Westfield from 1963 to 2017 and raised his four children there with his wife, before moving to Cranford.

The town of Westfield gave him a proclamation.

That town's mayor, Shelley Brindle, said at a council meeting Tuesday, "We are grateful for his service, and for all of those who served so bravely as part of the Greatest Generation."
