Cranford Schools Targeted By Vandals
Broken windows, damaged playground equipment and busted benches are being investigated, police said.
CRANFORD, NJ - Since the end of the school year there have been 18 incidents of vandalism at the Cranford Public Schools and officials are hoping the community will help put a stop to it.
According to officials, the acts include breaking windows, damaging playground equipment, and breaking “buddy” benches. The Cranford Police Department and Cranford Public Schools are working together to address these issues and are taking proactive steps to decrease the likelihood of repetitive acts, including the installation of additional cameras, officials said.
But they are also looking for more help.

Besides assisting in finding those responsible for the incidents, Police Chief Ryan Greco and Superintendent Scott Rubin have asked for parents to speak to their children.
"One of the things that makes Cranford so special is the pride we have for our community," Greco and Rubin said in a statement. "Please work with us in helping children make better decisions. It is important for our youth to respect property and promote a safe and positive environment. We greatly appreciate your partnership in helping to keep Cranford a safe and enjoyable place for all."
Greco and Rubin said the acts of vandalism are unacceptable and do not represent Cranford as a community.
