Cranford Woman Arrested For DWI, Having Alcohol Inside Car: Blotter

A total of 12 people were also arrested on drug-related charges including heroin, cocaine and marijuana possession, Cranford Police said.

CRANFORD, NJ — A Cranford driver was arrested after she was found to be driving while intoxicated and had an open container of alcohol in the car, police reported.

On March 1 at 5:41 p.m., patrol units responded to an E. South Avenue establishment on a report of a suspicious individual.

Following an investigation at the scene, Ptl. Matthew Siessel determined that, Nicole Palacios, 40, of Cranford was operating a 2002 Ford, while under the influence, Cranford Police reported.

Palacios was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated, processed, and released to a friend pending a Municipal Court appearance. Palacios was issued motor vehicle summonses for driving while intoxicated and possessing an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.

On March 1 at 6:17 p.m.: Patrol Units responded to the area of Walnut Avenue and Benhert Place for a reported motor vehicle accident. Following an investigation at the scene, Ptl. Temple determined that the driver of a 1998 Dodge, Robert Barkoff, 74, of Rahway was operating the vehicle while impaired. Barkoff was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated, processed, and released to a family member pending a Municipal Court appearance. Barkoff was issued motor vehicle summonses for careless driving, driving while intoxicated, unclear license plates, and following too closely.

On March 2 at 12:12 a.m.: A 2009 Nissan was stopped at the intersection of Raritan Road at Mohawk Drive for making an unsafe lane change and having unclear plates. Following an investigation at the scene, Ptl. Timothy Handy located crack cocaine and prescription pills on a passenger, Brandon Smith, 19, of North Brunswick. Smith was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Cocaine and Prescription Pills); and Possession of Paraphernalia, processed, and released pending a Superior Court appearance. Additionally, the driver was issued motor vehicle summonses for unsafe lane change and unclear plates.

On March 1 at 12:53 a.m.: A 2003 Infiniti was stopped on the GSP 137 NB entrance ramp and E. North Avenue for multiple moving violations. Following an investigation at the scene, Ptl. Robert Chamra located marijuana inside the vehicle. The driver, Jonathan Ramirez, 21, of Bloomfield was arrested for Possession of Marijuana(under 50g); and Possession of Paraphernalia, processed, and released pending a Municipal Court appearance. Ramirez was also issued motor vehicle summonses for failure to signal, failure to maintain lane, unclear license plates, and possessing a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle.

On Feb. 28 at 11:17 p.m.: A 2000 Toyota was stopped at the intersection of E. South Avenue and Washington Place for a lane violation. Following an investigation at the scene, Ptl. Jason D’Agostino located marijuana inside the vehicle. The driver, Paul Hopaluk Jr., 43, of Rahway was arrested for Possession of Marijuana(under 50g); and Possession of Paraphernalia, processed, and released pending a Municipal Court appearance. Hopaluk Jr. was also issued motor vehicle summonses for failure to turn, failure to maintain lamps, and possessing a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle.

On March 2 at 9:45 a.m.: While conducting a routine surveillance detail, Det. Spencer Durkin observed the occupant of a 2015 Nissan acting in a suspicious manner. After observing the individual for an extended period of time, Det. Durkin made contact with the occupant, Erin Culhane, 24, of Monroe, New York. Following an investigation at the scene, Det. Durkin found a glass pipe, commonly used to ingest narcotics, in Culhane’s possession. Culhane was arrested for Possession of Paraphernalia, processed, and released pending a Municipal Court appearance.

On March 2 at 11:47 a.m.: A 2001 Dodge was stopped at the intersection of Centennial Avenue and Raritan Road for an equipment violation. Following an investigation at the scene, Ptl. Jordan located heroin and hypodermic syringes inside the vehicle. The driver, Troy Struble, 27, of Bellefonte, PA and passengers, Janelle Kline, 21, of Bellefonte, PA and Barbara Sammond, 53, of Williamsport, PA were arrested for Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance(Heroin); Possession of Paraphernalia; and Possession of a Hypodermic Syringe, processed, and released pending a Superior Court appearance. Additionally, Struble was issued motor vehicle summonses for driving while suspended, failure to exhibit documents, and possessing a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle. Sammond was issued a motor vehicle summons for failing to wear a seatbelt.

On March 2 at 8:20 a.m.: Patrol Units responded to 1033 Springfield Avenue after Security reported two individuals acting suspiciously in a rear parking lot. Following an investigation at the scene, Ptl. Ali Muhammad located marijuana on both individuals, Rodney Thebaud, 19, of Linden and Bryan Lozada, 19, of Linden. Thebaud and Lozada were arrested for Possession of Marijuana(under 50g); and Possession of Paraphernalia, processed, and released pending a Municipal Court appearance.

On March 3 at 9:06 a.m.: While on routine patrol, Ptl. Ali Muhammad observed an individual acting in a suspicious manner in a parking lot of 1033 Springfield Avenue. Following an investigation at the scene, Ptl. Muhammad determined that the individual, Gary Ferreras, 23, of Elizabeth was in possession of marijuana. Ferreras was arrested for Possession of Marijuana(under 50g); and Possession of Paraphernalia, processed, and released pending a Municipal Court Appearance.

On March 4 at 4:29 p.m.: A 2013 Hyundai was stopped at the intersection of Raritan Road and Coleman Avenue for multiple equipment violations. Following an investigation at the scene, Ptl. Matthew Siessel located marijuana inside the vehicle. The driver, Brian Holt, 33, of Roselle and passenger, Terrell Walker, 34, of Newark were both arrested. Holt was arrested for possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia. Additionally, Holt was issued motor vehicle summonses for unregistered vehicle, failure to maintain lamps, and possessing a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle. Holt was released pending a Superior Court appearance. Walker was charged with possession of marijuana w/ the intent to distribute and possession of paraphernalia. Walker was issued a summons to appear in Superior Court.
