Cranford's National Night Out Celebration Set For Tuesday
Ice cream, not dogs, dunk-a-cops and more will be part of the annual 'going away party' for crime.

CRANFORD, NJ – The Cranford Police Department is fighting crime through community engagement by hosting the annual National Night Out Against Crime.
The program is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 6 at Patrolman Robert F. Hand Plaza and on the front lawn of the Cranford Police Department headquarters.
According to organizers, the event provides an excellent opportunity for residents to interact with members of the Cranford Police Department in an informal setting. Residents and visitors may also obtain information about the Department’s many youth, educational, safety and public awareness programs.

Numerous police and emergency vehicles will be on display,including marked police cars, command post truck, police motorcycle, emergency services unit utility vehicles, and equipment from the Union County Office of Emergency Management, New Jersey Transit Police Department, and Norfolk Southern Railroad Police Department. Public Safety personnel will be on hand to answer questions or demonstrate equipment.
For the 11th year in a row, a blood drive will also be held during National Night Out.

A DJ, face painter, and entertainment will be on site to provide entertainment for children and adults, and AAA and other organizations will be handing out literature and giveaways.
National Night Out, a yearlong community building campaign, is designed to:
- heighten crime prevention awareness generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs
- strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships
- send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back
This is a night for America to stand together and promote awareness, safety, and neighborhood unity. National Night Out showcases the vital importance of police-community partnership and citizen involvement in our fight for a safer nation. NNO invites neighborhoods nationwide
