Driver DWI Crashes Into Tree, Flees Scene: Cranford Police

David Cortes was seen crashing his car and trying to leave the scene of the accident by officers.

CRANFORD, NJ - A Belleville man was charged with DWI after crashing his car into a tree and attempting to flee the scene on Oct. 7 according to the Cranford Township Police Department.

David Cortes, 25, was stopped by Patrolman Daniel Donnerstag on Elizabeth Avenue near Wade Avenue after Donnerstag witnessed Cortes strike a tree on Elizabeth Avenue in his 1997 Honda and then leave the scene of the crash, police said. Donnerstag initiated a traffic stop and after an investigation arrested Cortes for driving while intoxicated, police said. Cortes was processed and provided with a Municipal Court appearance date, police said. In addition, he was issued motor vehicle summonses for careless driving and leaving the scene of a crash, police said.

  • Andrew Resetar, 20, of Lakewood, was arrested and charged with possession of under 50h of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia on Oct. 3. According to police, Patrolman John Rattigan stopped a 2000 Audi on Linden Place near Prospect Avenue for a seatbelt violation. Following an investigation at the scene, Rattigan arrested the driver, Resetar, for possession of suspected marijuana located inside the vehicle, police said. He was processed and provided with a Municipal Court appearance date, police said. In addition, he was issued a motor vehicle summons for possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, police said.
  • Levar Fulgham, 39, of Brooklyn, NY, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance on Oct. 4, police said. According to police, Patrolman Ryan McSharry stopped a 2015 Chevrolet on Springfield Avenue near Riverside Drive for an expired registration. Following an investigation at the scene, McSharry arrested the driver, Fulgham, for suspected ecstasy found inside the vehicle, police said. He was processed and provided with a Superior Court appearance date, police said. In addition, he was issued motor vehicle summonses for an unregistered vehicle, suspended driver’s license and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, police said.
  • Cheyenne Floyd, 25, of Springfield was arrested and charged with possession of under 50g of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia on Oct. 5, police said. Patrolman Gregory Federici stopped 2016 Honda on Myrtle Street at Centennial Avenue for a view obstruction. Following an investigation at the scene, Federici arrested the driver, Cheyenne, for suspected marijuana found inside the vehicle, police said. He was processed and provided with a Municipal Court appearance date, police said. In addition, he was issued motor vehicle summonses for a view obstruction, failure to maintain his lane, no driver’s license in his possession and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, police said.
