The beginning of August included live music in the center of town, thanks to the Cranford Peace Arts Fair, a workshop that taught kids how to make sushi out of candy and the Cranford Police Department's annual National Night Out, which focused on educating residents on programs offered by the CPD and the logistics of responding to an emergency in town.

Monday, Aug. 9

• The family friendly film "Racing Stripes" will screen on Aug. 24 in Nomahegan Park, the last of the Family Flix series this summer. 

• The Peace Arts Fair takes off in downtown Cranford, complete with live music and a speech from an impassioned Yasuko Ohta, survivor of the 1945 Nagasaki atomic bombing in Japan.
