LightSoundSpace Presents Jose James this evening at 6:00pm. Discovering a passion for both music and creative writing, José James combined these through performance – singing jazz standards, originals and the works of John Coltrane through the Twin Cities. He became a member of the groundbreaking avant-garde performance poetry and jazz ensemble Ancestor Energy while in Minneapolis. Later moving to New York City to attend the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, James was mentored by and recorded with the legendary drummer Chico Hamilton and Junior Mance.
James’ debut album “The Dreamer” (2008) was voted #21 Critic’s Pick of JazzTimes Top 50 Jazz Albums of 2008. His second album explored the worldwide underground, while his latest album “For All We Know” was released on the legendary “Impulse!” label. It is a deep and timeless duo album of jazz standards featuring Jef Neve on piano. José James was recently voted 2011 DownBeat Critics Poll “Rising Star Best Male Vocalist” and is currently working on his fourth studio album ‘No Beginning, No End”. Tickets are $25 per person.
