Fatal Fire Destroys Cranford Home Sunday: Report

A man's body was discovered after the blaze was extinguished, according to News 12.

CRANFORD, NJ - A fire claimed the life of one man and destroyed a home on Hillcrest Avenue Sunday morning according to a report from News 12.

According to the report, a heavy fire decimated a wood-framed house located in the 100 block of Hillcrest Avenue shortly after 6:30 a.m. Sunday. Crews arrived to find thick smoke and flames and it required multiple mutual aid units to bring the blaze under control.

According to the report, a man’s body was found on the first floor and his identity has not been released.

Standard procedure in a fatal fire requires the Union County Arson Investigation team to be called in, but the fire has not been called suspicious at this time and the cause of the fire remains unclear, officials said.
