CRANFORD, NJ — Mayor Phil Murphy attended the reorganization meeting of the Cranford Township Committee on Thursday night, Jan. 2. At the meeting, he swore in Mayor Patrick Giblin and new Deputy Mayor Kathleen Miller Prunty. Commissioner Mary O'Connor was sworn in to begin her third term.

In Cranford's form of government, the public elects commissioners to the five-member committee, who choose the mayor and deputy mayor from among themselves. Each commissioner oversees a department such as public safety.

Giblin wrote on Facebook on Friday, "Thank you to the many Cranford residents and municipal employees that attended the 2020 reorganization meeting last night. Congratulations to Mary O’Connor as she begins a third term, and to Kathleen Prunty as she begins elected office as deputy mayor. It was an honor to have Governor Murphy swear me in to another term as mayor. I greatly appreciate Congressman Malinowski, Senator Kean and Freeholder Kowalski attending — their partnership is very important for Cranford. Thanks to my wife, children, family and friends that came out last night to support me."
