Heroin Arrest On John Street: Cranford Police

Michael Castro was a passenger in a car stopped for a seatbelt violation, police said.

CRANFORD, NJ - A 44-year-old Newark man was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a hypodermic syringe and possession of drug paraphernalia after a motor vehicle stop on April 3.

According to authorities, Patrolman Gregory Federici stopped a 1996 Ford on North Avenue East and John Street for a seatbelt violation.

Following an investigation on scene, Federici arrested a passenger, Michael Castro, for suspected heroin and a hypodermic needle found in his possession, police said. He was processed and provided with a Superior Court appearance date.

In addition, he was issued a motor vehicle summons for a seatbelt violation, police said.
