Stratford Terrace Home In Cranford 'Uninhabitable' After Fire
No one was injured in the blaze, officials said.

CRANFORD, NJ - A house fire early Wednesday morning snarled local traffic as first responders tended to the Stratford Terrace blaze, according to the Cranford Police Department.
The Cranford Fire and Police Departments responded to a residential house fire on Stratford Terrace after receiving several 911 calls at approximately 5:37 a.m., Cranford Fire Official Lr. Matthew Lubin said.
According to Lubin, fire units were on scene by 5:42 a.m. and encountered heavy fire conditions from a single-family home. The three residents who were living in the home were able to safely escape, with one resident treated at the scene with minor smoke inhalation.

The fire was brought under control at 6:34 a.m. with the help of fire units from Linden, Westfield, and Roselle who responded on the second alarm assignment and assisted with fire control, Lubin said.
Union County Fire Mutual Aid coordinators also responded, as did fire units from Garwood and Elizabeth who assisted in covering other calls within the Township during the incident.

The home sustained significant damage and is currently uninhabitable, though the fire was
contained to the areas near the point of origin. At this time, a preliminary investigation has determined the cause to be unintentional, Lubin said.
Lubin said that the Fire Department reminds all residents that the most effective way to protect from fire is to have working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms throughout the home, have an escape plan with two ways out, and regular fire drills. Test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms monthly and check on family, friends, and neighbors who may not be able to test their alarms, Lubin said.
