Man Spit On Multiple Cranford Officers, Resisted Arrest: Blotter

A Cranford man was also among five people arrested for drugs in separate incidents in town, police reported.

CRANFORD, NJ — A Newark man who was found to have an active warrant spit on multiple officers and resisted arrest, Cranford Police reported.

On Feb. 26 at 1:05 p.m., patrol Units responded to the area of Riverside Drive for a report of a suspicious motor vehicle. Following an investigation at the scene, Ptl. Corey Loforte determined that the driver, Adriano Romano, 27, of Newark had an active warrant out of Newark, police reported.

As Officers were attempting to place Romano under arrest, Romano began to resist arrest, and spit on multiple officers, police reported.

Romano was eventually handcuffed, processed for Hindering Apprehension; Aggravated Assault; Resisting Arrest; Disorderly Conduct; and Contempt of Court and released pending a Court Appearance.

On Feb. 17 at 10:46 p.m.: A 1998 Honda was stopped at the intersection of Centennial Avenue and Raritan Road for making an illegal turn. Following an investigation at the scene, Ptl. Brian Trotter located marijuana on the driver, Laury Desrosiers, 25, of Linden. Desrosiers was arrested for Possession of Marijuana(under 50g); and Possession of Paraphernalia, processed, and released pending a Municipal Court Appearance. Desrosiers was issued motor vehicle summonses for improper turn and possessing a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle.

On Feb. 23 at 1:49 a.m.: A 2003 Mitsubishi was stopped at the intersection of Raritan Road and Coleman Avenue for multiple equipment violations. Following an investigation at the scene, Ptl. Daniel Donnerstag located marijuana inside the vehicle. A passenger, Steven Deluke, 24, Cranford was arrested for Possession of Marijuana(under 50g); and Possession of Paraphernalia, processed, and released pending a Municipal Court Appearance. The driver was issued motor vehicle summonses for driving with his high beams illuminated and failure to inspect.

On Feb. 13 at 9 p.m.: A 2010 Ford was stopped at the intersection of the Garden State Parkway NorthBound exit 137 Ramp and E. North Avenue for multiple equipment violations. Following an investigation at the scene, Ptl. James Knight determined that a passenger, Aziz Smith, 25, of Woodbridgeprovided him with a false name. Furthermore, it was determined that Smith had an active warrant out of the Borough of Kenilworth. Smith was arrested for Hindering Apprehension; and Contempt of Court, processed, and released after posting bail on the Kenilworth warrant.

On Feb. 23 at 3:52 p.m.: Patrol Units were dispatched to the area of Mohawk Park on a report of a suspicious motor vehicle. While en route to that location, Det. Spencer Durkin observed a motor vehicle matching the description pass him. Det. Durkin conducted a motor vehicle stop of a 2010 Chevy at the intersection of W. Lincoln Avenue and Burnside Avenue. Following an investigation at the scene, Det. Durkin located marijuana on the driver, Patrick Cherego, 51, of Toms River. Cherego was arrested for Possession of Marijuana(under 50g); and Possession of Paraphernalia, processed, and released pending a Municipal Court appearance.

On Feb. 24 at 11:50 p.m.: While conducting a routine patrol of the Centennial Avenue Pool Complex, Ptl. Daniel Donnerstag located an occupied, 2000 Mercury. Following an investigation at the scene, Ptl. Donnerstag located a quantity of prescription medications on a passenger, Derrick Giles, 26, of East Orange. Giles was arrested for Possession of Prescription Medication; and Possession of Paraphernalia, processed, and released pending a Superior Court Appearance.

On Feb. 26 at 10:31 p.m.: A 1994 Toyota was stopped at the intersection of E. North Avenue and Carpenter Place for a seatbelt violation. Following an investigation at the scene, Ptl. John Rattigan determined that a passenger, Didier Zuniga, 35, of Elizabeth had an active warrant for his arrest. Zuniga was arrested on the active warrants, and prior to transport, Ptl. Rattigan located marijuana on Zuniga. Zuniga was processed for Possession of Marijuana(under 50g); Possession of Paraphernalia; and Contempt of Court and issued a summons to appear in Municipal Court.
