Pills, Paraphernalia Arrest On Carpenter Place: Cranford Police

Jose Arroyave-Ortiz was stopped for a cell phone offense, police said.

CRANFORD, NJ - A 23-year-old Elizabeth man was arrested and charged with possession after being stopped for driving while using a cell phone, according to the Cranford Police Department.

According to authorities, Patrolman Matthew Siessel stopped a 2001 Ford on North Avenue East and Carpenter Place when the driver was seen driving and using a cell phone. Following an investigation on scene, Siessel arrested the driver, Jose Arroyave-Ortiz, for possession of suspected Xanax and marijuana found inside the vehicle, police said. He was processed and provided with a Superior Court appearance date.

In addition, he was issued a motor vehicle summons for using a cellular device while driving, failure to exhibit a driver’s license and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, police said.
