Rebecca Turygan Receives New Jersey Clean Communities County Coordinator Award

New Jersey Clean Communities Council acknowledges Rebecca Turygan for her work in Atlantic County.

ATLANTIC COUNTY – June 29, 2017 – Rebecca Turygan was presented with the County Coordinator Award from the New Jersey Clean Communities Council (NJCCC) for her work organizing clean ups throughout her six years as Atlantic County Clean Communities Coordinator.

This award is presented to an individual who has implemented a municipal litter abatement program and demonstrates ongoing support of NJCCC. Last year, the Atlantic County Clean Communities Program picked up an estimated 42.61 tons of trash and 28.08 tons of recycling through the Adopt-a-Road campaign. With the help of 3,513 volunteers, more than 437 miles of road were covered through 338 cleanups.

Turygan coordinates approximately 150 Atlantic County volunteer groups to provide supplies, disposal, and assistance for their cleanups. She also hosts an annual “Thank You Dinner” for volunteers every year, to ensure they feel appreciated.

“Rebecca knows what it takes to run a successful program,” said Sandy Huber, Executive Director of the NJCCC. “She values the work of volunteers, and will continue to improve Atlantic County by forming strong relationships inside the community.”

Turygan has also motivated the community by using the SeeClickFix app in Atlantic County, which allows users to report and target littered areas to their local government.“Using apps and other new technologies is a step towards the future of litter abatement,” Huber added.
