“Last week’s attack on the U.S. Capitol was only the latest example of the alarming rise in violent extremism plaguing our country,” said Representative Malinowski. “I’m joining the Homeland Security Committee to ensure that our federal government finally prioritizes domestic terrorism and has the resources necessary to protect Americans from these evolving threats.”

Since his first days in office, Representative Malinowski has been a leading voice in Congress in the fight against white supremacist violence, anti-Semitism, and other forms of domestic extremism. Representative Malinowski led the House in passing a resolution condemning the Qanon movement, which played a central role in last week’s attack on the Capitol. At his request, the 2021 federal budget provided over $35 million for Department of Homeland Security Programs to prevent domestic terrorism, including the Office of Targeted Violence and Terrorism Prevention (TVTP) grants. Representative Malinowski led the effort to restore funding the Trump administration cut for this program in 2019, and championed additional funds this year, securing an increase of $21 million above FY20.
