Union County College Will Honor 'Outstanding Women Leaders'
The Cranford campus will host a Title IX celebration next week.

The following press release was submitted by the Union County College Public Information Office.
Outstanding Women Leaders (O.W.L) will be hosting its first annual Title IX celebration. They will be celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the Federal Law through remembrance and education and will acknowledge female athletes of Union County.
This event will take place on April, 24 at the Union County College Cranford Campus in the Roy Smith Theater. It will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
There will be guest speakers, picture slides, videos and memorabilia of Title IX. Keynote speakers will include host Linda Carter, Chairman of the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders, Carol “Blaze” Blazejowski, an alumna of Cranford High School and Montclair State University, and Dr. Lilyan Wright, a former professor, administrator, coach and founder of a number of women’s athletics programs at The College of New Jersey.
Freeholder Chairman Linda Carter is an alumna of the University of Maryland where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. She is the first African American women to serve as Chairman of the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders.
Freeholder Carter has received numerous awards for leadership, professional accomplishments and community involvement, including The New Jersey Minority Achievers Award and the Jack and Jill of America, Inc. Greater Union County Chapter Community Leaders Hall of Fame award.
She has served on the Plainfield Teen Parenting Board and has worked as a volunteer with the YMCA for more than 17 years. She is also a member of the New Jersey Board of Realtors and has been a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority for more than 25 years.
Carol “Blaze” Blazejowski is considered to be one of the most influential trailblazers for women’s basketball and Title IX. Her tenure at Montclair State was impressive. She was named All-American three times and was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Post college she served as captain of the U.S. Women’s Olympic basketball team and was later inducted into the National Basketball Hall of Fame. Blazejowski is the former president and General Manager of Women’s National Basketball Association’s New York Liberty.
Dr. Lilyan Wright is a pioneer in the field of women’s intercollegiate sports. Her advocacy of women’s rights in education and athletics was a major influence in the success of the Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act.
