Alleged Union County Flim-Flam Scammer Arrested
Melvin Williams, 59, of Plainfield was charged with theft by deception

Plainfield, NJ -- A Union County man was arrested today for using a flim-flam/quick change scam at the Forked River Service Area on the Garden State Parkway in August, according to NJ State Police.
“The suspect will purchase an inexpensive item with a large denomination bill and then proceed to confuse the cashier by making multiple requests for change with other bills, and perhaps, just maybe, by employing a #JediMindTrick,” NJ State Police posted on Facebook.
On Friday, Aug. 14, 2015, Melvin Williams, 59, of Plainfield, stole $245.77 from a cashier at the Garden State Parkway service area by using the flim-flam/quick change scam, police reported.

When the cashier realized the register drawer was missing money police were notified.
Through various investigative means, detectives were able to identify Williams as the suspect.

Williams was arrested today at Summit Municipal Court at 11 a.m., where he was scheduled for a court appearance for an unrelated matter. He was charged with theft by deception (fourth degree) and lodged at the Ocean County Jail in lieu of $5,000 full cash bail.
