No need to go into full detail on what Mother Nature has been up to lately. We are all privy to the cold, snowy conditions here, but have you noticed the condition of your skin this season? Has excessive shoveling and trekking through sleet and snow wreaked havoc on your skin making it look dryer, dull and less firm? If so, Yikes-welcome to Winter Skin! Unfortunately, this is what happens when we are exposed to the outdoor cold elements, lack of moisture in the air, and indoor artificial heat. Do not lose hope in getting your natural winter glow back. Yes, it can be done and it doesn’t take much time or many products to help your skin look fresher and alive again.
Since we are all cooped up a bit this winter, this may be the perfect time to refocus on yourself and explore some new skincare options that you can incorporate into your regime immediately. First things first- if you are not a water drinker, it is time to start now, better late than never, and your skin will love you for it! We all know the benefits of water, but somehow we don’t drink as much water in the winter. This is the season that our skin shows signs of lack of moisture. With that said-let’s now move onto a suggested quick skincare program that can help you regain a soft, smooth, and fresh appearance to your skin.
Always use warm, not hot water. Try to use a gentle exfoliator (excluding eye area) weekly before your cleanser. Choose an appropriate facial cleanser (not soap) for AM and PM. Invest in a great facial moisturizer! Facts about Moisturizers-They increase the skin's hydration by reducing evaporation or slowing down the loss of moisture from your skin. Basically a moisturizer is designed to lock in moisture in your skin. And lastly, if you have never tried a subtle self- tanner, why wait- you can apply this safe and fun product to your face and body. You will see beautiful results by following the directions.

Self- tanners were discovered in the 1920’s. In the 1960’s a major suntan lotion company introduced it to the public, and by the early 1990’s they gained their popularity in the beauty industry. Thanks goodness for subtle self- tanners, they are an easy and safe way to add soft “warmth of color” to your skin. They also soften the look of little wrinkles and skin imperfections. If you are adventurous and want to try a self- tanner this season, go for it, just remember to exfoliate beforehand. Also, most self tanners already have a moisturizer built in, but if not, be sure to use one after applying. Go gradual and use sparingly for your beautiful natural winter tan. In closing, I hope to see some beautiful, smiling, “winter-tanned” ladies around town and can’t wait to smile back.
