• NJ cops turn to DNA in 42-year mystery of murdered woman known only as LA (shorenewsnetwork.com) — State Police have reopened a 42-year-old cold case involving a young woman killed during a domestic violence incident on Eppirt Street in East Orange, and are now using DNA and genetic genealogy to identify her. Investigators, working with East Orange police and county prosecutors, have exhumed her remains and are asking anyone who knew her as LA or Loranda to come forward with information.
   

• Jingle Brawls 3 is set, as first responders battle in the ring for Belleville boxing club rising up from devastating fire (essexnewsdaily.com) — East Orange residents may see their firefighters step into the ring this December, as the East Orange Fire Department joins other agencies in Jingle Brawls 3, a charity boxing event supporting Belleville's Legacy Boxing Club after a devastating fire. First responder registration runs through Sept. 30, with ticket sales starting Oct. 1 to benefit youth programs and rebuilding efforts.
