EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - East Brunswick Township Council introduced a capital ordinance appropriating $1.2 million for the replacement of the municipal building roof, including the section housing the Police Department, at its Aug. 10 meeting.

The funds will come from the township's Capital Improvement Fund and Capital Fund Balance, according to the ordinance. The appropriation is intended to cover the full scope of the roofing project, from removal of the existing structure through completion.

Work covered under the ordinance includes removal and disposal of the existing roofing system, replacement of roofing materials, and repair or replacement of roof insulation, decking, flashing, coping, gutters, drains, leaders and related appurtenances as necessary, according to the ordinance. Structural repairs will be made as required, along with improvements to roof access.

The appropriation also covers engineering, architectural and inspection services associated with the project, as well as construction management, permits and testing, according to the ordinance. A contingency allowance is built into the total to account for unforeseen work, materials, equipment or other expenses incidental to the project.

As part of the ordinance process, the township certified that it has adopted a capital budget or temporary capital budget, and that budget has been amended to conform with the roof replacement appropriation. Where the project is inconsistent with the previously adopted capital budget, a revised version has been filed with the state Division of Local Government Services, according to the ordinance.
