$100K Copper Wire Theft Reported In East Brunswick; Police Seek Tips

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — About $100,000 worth of copper wire was stolen from Verizon telephone poles along a stretch of Riva Avenue near the South Brunswick border, East Brunswick police said.

Officers responded to the area Thursday night following a report of the theft.

According to Verizon, the copper was taken from old landline wire on telephone poles in the area. Investigators believe the suspect or suspects used a bucket truck to carry out the theft, which is believed to have occurred between April 1 and April 2.

Police are asking residents to report any suspicious persons or work trucks seen on Riva Avenue between Church Lane and the South Brunswick border.
