2 Comic Operas, 1 Night Out: 'Bon Appétit!', 'The Cook-Off' Hit East Brunswick This Weekend
Hub City Opera's double bill promises laughs and live music with tickets still available at the door.
EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — A double bill of comic operas celebrating food comes to the East Brunswick Community Arts Center this weekend.
Hub City Opera and Dance Company of New Brunswick is presenting the shows in partnership with the East Brunswick Arts Commission at 721 Cranbury Road.
Playhouse 22 will stage "Bon Appétit! The Julia Child Opera" and "The Cook-Off" with performances Saturday, March 21 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, March 22 at 3 p.m.

"Bon Appétit!" features music by composer Lee Hoiby and is based on the words of Julia Child, adapted by Mark Shulgasser.
"The Cook-Off," composed by Shawn E. Okpeholo with a libretto by Mark Campbell, was originally commissioned by Chicago Opera Theater's Vanguard Initiative.

Both works are performed in English and are billed as accessible to first-time opera audiences.
Tickets are available for advance purchase at playhouse22.org for preferred seating, or at the door.
