2 East Brunswick Shoplifting Arrests In February

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — Two people were arrested for shoplifting last month, from the East Brunswick Burlington Coat Factory and the JC Penny, police said. There were foot chases in both the incidents, as both of the suspects ran into wooded areas off Rt. 18.
The Burlington Coat Factory incident was Feb. 28: Police were called to the store just before 6 p.m. after employees said a man was present who had shoplifted there twice before. When they got to the store, officers said they observed Christian Colon, 31, of Monmouth Junction in the process of shoplifting merchandise. He fled from officers when approached, police said, and a foot chase ensued near Rt. 18.
Colon was taken into custody in the area of Arthur Street. He was charged with shoplifting, resisting arrest, obstruction and possession of burglary tools.

A Somerset man was arrested Feb. 9 after police said he stole Apple watches from the JC Penny in East Brunswick. Police were called to the store at 3:36 p.m. by store employees, who said he fled towards Rt. 18 northbound. The suspect was found hiding in a wooded area near Grott Lane. Alton Rodgers, 50, of Somerset was charged with shoplifting.
