EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — Following the resignation of Councilman Michael Spadafino on Jan. 10, the East Brunswick Democratic Organization (EBDO) has nominated three candidates to fill his position.

The EBDO has nominated Verne Whitlock Jr., Dana Winston and Dana Zimbicki. The nomination letter was read during Monday’s council meeting.

“I know and understand that the council has a very difficult decision — weighing the qualifications and experience of each of these candidates, and selecting our next councilperson,” Democratic Chairman David Loski said. “I just want to wish everyone good luck in that process.”

Council President Jim Wendell will collaborate with all council members to make a decision on who fills the vacancy. The Council is expected to vote on Spadafino’s replacement on Feb. 14.

Spadafino resigned from his position on Council and all township committees after serving for seven years. He said the decision to resign was “very difficult,” but “very personal.”
