30 Milltown Residents Called Monday in IRS Scam, Police Say
South Brunswick and East Brunswick residents report calls Monday, as well.

Milltown, NJ - About 30 Milltown residents have reported getting IRS scam phone calls so far on Monday, Feb. 1, police there report. The caller identifies himself as Dennis Quaid of the IRS and advises that money is owed on back taxes. He then tells the victim that they need to wire him money or the police department will come to their home with an arrest warrant.
Several East Brunswick residents have received the calls Monday as well, police report.
South Brunswick residents were called Monday with an automated message from someone claiming to be from the Department of Treasury, police said. Residents report that the caller ID appears the calls are coming from a (201) number and may appear on your caller ID as AARP.

“We think they are preying heavily on older residents, and that by using AARP, an organization they trust in the caller ID, it will encourage people to answer the call,” said Jeff Abramo, a spokesman for AARP New Jersey who also happens to be an East Brunswick resident.
As Patch has reported, these IRS scam attempts have been occurring all over Middlesex and Monmouth counties in the past few weeks. Do not send money or give out any personal information if you receive one of these calls, police warn.
