Heat Can Affect Mental Health

Did you know that extreme heat can affect more than just your physical health? High temperatures can increase feelings of stress, anxiety, irritability, and emotional exhaustion. Older adults and individuals living with behavioral health conditions may be especially vulnerable during periods of extreme heat.

During hot weather, stay hydrated, spend time in air-conditioned spaces when possible, and check in with family, friends, and neighbors. If you or someone you know is experiencing emotional distress, help is available.

The Raritan Valley YMCA (www.raritanvalleyymca.org) has teamed up with the Middlesex County Office of Aging & Disabled Services at 732-745-3295 to increase public awareness of services and opportunities for county seniors, the disabled, and their caregivers.
