On Bicycle Safety Month, East Brunswick PD Shares Some Tips
To help spread awareness, the police department shares some tips for bicyclists and motorists.
EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ – May is bicycle safety month, and with the weather being all pleasant, many bicyclists will be out and about.
While it can be an inexpensive and reliable way to get around town, bicycling can also prove to be dangerous.
According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, there were 938 bicyclist fatalities in the country in 2020, which accounted for 2.4 percent of all traffic fatalities during the year.

To help spread awareness of bicycle safety, the East Brunswick Police Department shared some tips for bicyclists and motorists:
- Never ride or drive distracted.
- Always expect the unexpected.
- Always wear a bicycle helmet when on a bicycle and a seat belt when in a vehicle.
- Know the Rules of the Road - A bicyclist is considered a vehicle on the road with all the rights and responsibilities of motorized traffic.
- Share the Road - Motorists and bicyclists should look out for each other and show mutual respect.
