EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — In 2022, people began to return to in-person events and that benefited the township’s Parks and Recreation Department.

The message was highlighted during Mayor Brad Cohen’s State of the Township address.

Last year alone, the township organized over 345 programs and special events. And the Crystal Springs Water Park benefited greatly, Cohen noted.

“We had over 50,000 visits to Crystal Springs Water Park, bringing in a revenue of $1.27 million, which is pretty close to our pre-COVID record,” Cohen told the community.

All this happened while costs went up significantly due to inflation. “Chemicals are a lot more expensive. Staff, if you could find them, is much more expensive because minimum wages went up and insurance costs went up,” Cohen said.

The Parks and Recreation Department received a $75,000 grant to repair Sadowski Park playground. The project will begin this year, Cohen said.

Another exciting update was the Township putting together the Ice Arena Committee.

“The East Brunswick Ice Arena Committee has been working steadily with the Planning and Engineering Department and our Parks and Rec Department, on not only the facility, but youth programs that we're going to need to make that a successful new spot here in the Township,” Cohen said.
