East Brunswick Approves $40M Bond Ordinance For Ice Arena

The bonds will not be issued until the township receives bids for the project, officials said.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ – During Monday’s council meeting, East Brunswick approved a $40 million bond ordinance for the construction of the municipal ice arena.

The bonds will not be issued until the township receives bids for the project, Councilman James Wendell said. “Nothing will be bid or no bonds will be sold until we receive our bids and we understand that budgetary-wise can afford htis,” Wendell clarified.

The bids are expected to go out in early fall.

The total cost of the project is around $53 million dollars, but that amount was futher reduces after Garden Homes Development gave $10 million for ite development and cost of land.

Another $3 million came through a grant from the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs.

“based on the estimates we got for the cost, the equipment, the furnishings and all of that, we came up with a conservative estimate,” said Mayor Brad Cohen.

He told the community that the whole process was fair and transparent.
