East Brunswick PD Opens Junior Police Academy Signups, Spots Limited To 30 Teens

The summer program for ages 13-17 costs $150 and runs July 20-24 at East Brunswick High School. Applications are due May 27.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - The East Brunswick Police Department is accepting applications for its annual Junior Police Academy, a one-week summer program for local teens that runs July 20 through July 24, according to a department announcement.

The academy is open to residents and students of East Brunswick ages 13 to 17 and will be held at East Brunswick High School from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, with a graduation ceremony on the final day. Enrollment is capped at 30 cadets, and the registration fee is $150.

The program is designed to give young community members a look at how the department operates and how officers serve the community, according to the release. Cadets will take part in team-building activities, lessons on respect and tolerance, and a field trip to a local law enforcement site such as the New Jersey State Police Museum.

The registration deadline is May 27, and officials said applicants should submit materials as soon as possible given the limited class size. Cadets new to the program may be accepted over previous graduates due to anticipated high demand, according to the release.

Families interested in enrolling more than one child must submit separate applications for each. Registration is completed online through the East Brunswick Department of Recreation, with the completed applicant packet emailed to the Community Policing Unit.
