'Tis the season for porch pirates. Here's how to prevent theft of packages this season:
EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ – 'Tis the season for Holiday shopping and all those boxes will be showing up at front doors over the next few weeks. They also make an attractive target for porch pirates.
Porch pirate activity has increased since the pandemic and 49 million Americans have had at least one package stolen in the past 12 months, according to a 2022 study by security.org.
To protect your property from theft, the East Brunswick Police Department has shared some helpful tips:

- Bring your package inside ASAP.
- Install video doorbell or security camera.
- Use a locking dropbox.
- Request a signature confirmation of delivery.
- Ask them to hide the delivery out of sight.
- Send it to a secure location other than your home.
- Have your item shipped to the store.
