EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ – East Brunswick School District will be going all-remote through January, due to rising number of COVID-19 cases and quarantines. School Superintendent Victor Valeski made the announcement on Monday night.

The school will shift to the all-remote model beginning Nov.16, through Jan. 11, 2021. Valeski said he made the decision based on “a comprehensive review of our current and forecasted positive COVID and close contact trends.”

But the decision was not an easy one to make, said Valeski.

“I am making this difficult decision for the protection of all our schools’ populations. By moving quickly to remote learning for this period of time, which includes Thanksgiving and our winter recess, we can position ourselves for a safe return on Jan. 11,” he told the school community in a statement.

There will be no supplemental instruction for the remainder of this week. Each school’s administrative team will plan for distribution of any student material needed during this remote period.

Here are some services that will continue despite the district moving to the all-remote model.

  • Meal distributions will continue.
  • All other scheduled non-instructional school activities will continue at this time.

On Tuesday, Patch reported that the district will be making an announcement soon on changes in ‘operations.’

This week, the school district reported an increase in the number of COVID cases and close contact quarantine.

Valeski said the increase was directly linked to the week-long school break.

He asked the community for their support as the district transitions to the remote learning schedule. East Brunswick was one of the few towns to begin their school year with the hybrid learning model, while other towns decided to go all-remote.

“I know this is difficult news for some of our community. We are still here to answer your questions and address your concerns. We are EB. We have gotten this far together and together we can get through this difficult period in our recover,” Valeski said.
