East Brunswick Schools Closed Tuesday As Historic Blizzard Slams NJ
The district canceled all after-school and evening activities and announced that makeup days will be added to the calendar.
EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — East Brunswick Public Schools will remain closed Tuesday, as a historic blizzard continues to batter New Jersey with up to two feet of snow, the district announced Monday.
All after-school programs and evening activities scheduled for Tuesday have also been canceled.
To comply with New Jersey's state-mandated minimum instructional day requirements, East Brunswick Public Schools announced it will add two makeup days to the academic calendar. Students will now be in session on Monday, March 30, and Tuesday, March 31 — days that had previously been off.

The closure comes as a blizzard continues to pummel the Garden State, snarling roads, suspending mass transit and knocking out power in some areas. Patch Monmouth County reported as much as 24.2 inches of snow, with many other areas across the state recording more than 18 inches as of 8 a.m. Monday, according to National Weather Service spotters.
Gov. Mikie Sherrill issued a State of Emergency beginning at noon Sunday and extended a mandatory travel restriction through Monday morning, urging all residents to stay indoors.

Forecasters warned that an additional 3 to 7 inches of snow could fall by Monday afternoon in areas closer to New York City, with wind gusts reaching as high as 45 mph.
East Brunswick is among a wide swath of Middlesex County districts impacted by the storm. Dozens of school districts across New Jersey, from Monmouth and Ocean counties to Hudson County, have announced closures for Tuesday as the storm continues to move through the region.
