East Brunswick Students Expected To Walk Out Wednesday

The walkout is scheduled to happen at 10 a.m. Here is the schedule of events today at the high school:

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — Today, Wednesday, March 14 is the one-month anniversary of the Valentine's Day Parkland, Florida school shooting, and students at East Brunswick High School are expected to walk out of class en masse to mark the solemn occasion.

It remains unclear how many students will walk out, but it could be in the thousands, as just over 2,000 students attend East Brunswick High School. The school district shut down the campus to outsiders, so the media will not be allowed to record the walkout. The walkout is expected to happen just before 10 a.m.

Provided by East Brunswick superintendent Dr. Victor Valesky, here is the schedule of events today at the high school. The day has turned into a "day of action" in addition to those students who choose to walk out:

  • All students sign EBHS One banner at lunch, which the district will send to Parkland to show they stand with them
  • Voter registration (forms in English classes and Lunch)
  • Learning to write a formal letter in English
  • Civics/Active Citizenship - Social Studies
  • Team building/Unifying activities in Physical Education
  • “I Stand With Parkland” buttons designed by our students being sold during lunch and funds donated to Parkland
  • Student Walkout for those students wishing to participate (period 4) – Planned walk to the football field and honor the 17 victims– there will not be an announcement
  • Wear burgundy/white/black (school colors)
