East Brunswick's Douglas Scott honored at Eagle Court of Honor

Douglas Scott was presented the rank of Eagle Scout at a Court of Honor ceremony on July 19, 2014 at the Sayreville VFW Post #4699.

With family, friends, and Scouters in attendance, Douglas Scott was presented the rank of Eagle Scout at a Court of Honor ceremony on July 19, 2014 at the Sayreville VFW Post #4699.

Douglas’ Eagle project, the Tamarack Hollow Information Kiosk and Invasive Species Control, benefited the Middlesex County Office of Parks and Recreation. He led a group of 23 volunteers to create and install an information kiosk at the trailhead at Tamarack Hollow. In addition, he led these volunteers in identifying and removing invasive plant species, such as the Tree of Heaven and the Autumn Olive bush, which helped restore the ecology of the nearby orchard. After 230 hours of service and generous donations from local businesses, friends and family, the information kiosk now helps orient visitors and keeps them advised about park facilities, rules and regulations, and the wide range of activities available within the park system. The presence of the kiosk generates interest in the trail system at Tamarack Hollow Preserve. The removal of invasive plant species improved the habitat for native plants and animals and helped create a safe haven for wildlife for generations to come.

Douglas joined Cub Scouts in 2002 as a Tiger Cub in Pack 109, chartered by St. Bartholomew’s Roman Catholic Church in East Brunswick. After earning his Tiger Cub, Wolf and Bear badges, he joined Pack 132 as a first year Webelos. There he earned the highest honor in Cub Scouting – the Arrow of Light – and then in 2007, at the age of 11, he bridged into Boy Scout Troop 132, chartered by Trinity Presbyterian Church in East Brunswick. Along his Scouting journey, Douglas has earned numerous merit badges, was elected into the Order of the Arrow, Scouting’s National Honor Society, in which he is currently a Brotherhood member, and has held a number of leadership positions in his Troop serving as Patrol Leader, OA Representative, Den Chief, and as the re-established Troop’s first elected Senior Patrol Leader in 2010-11.
