EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ – Four elected council members took the oath of office in East Brunswick on Monday.

Kevin McEvoy, James Wendell, Dana Zimbicki and Dana Winston were administered the oath of office.

Sen. Patrick Diegnan administered the oath of office to McEvoy. He spoke about the councilman’s long-standing service to the township. “This is what public service is all about. And it’s truly an honor to give you the oath, Kevin,” Diegnan said.

Winston was the second to take the oath of office and was joined by her family. Mayor Brad Cohen administered the oath of office. Cohen said Winston was the embodiment of what it means to be a public servant for having a long record as a volunteer in the township.

As I take my seat on the dais this evening, please know that I'm deeply grateful to my family, friends and all who supported us during the campaign. I'm honored and humbled by the faith the residents have placed in us," Winston said. "I promise to take this role very seriously with a commitment to represent our stakeholders in every decision and discussion."

Wendell was the next to take the oath of office. “Another example of a public servant. Somebody who has spent his entire life here in East Brunswick, contributed to the township, kids in the school system, still works for the children even though his kids are long out of school,” Cohen said. This is Wendell’s 12th year on the council.

I think we ran a great campaign — very levelheaded and straightforward and put our point out there and got it to the people. I just want to thank you all for supporting us, and I look forward to the future of East Brunswick," Wendell told the community.

Assemblyman Sterley Stanley administered the oath of office to Zimbicki, who was accompanied by her family. “I couldn’t be proud of someone replacing our former councilman, Mike Spadafino. The last year since you’ve taken his seat, I’ve seen how you have grown and how you have fully committed to this role,” Stanley said.

“We are so diverse, rich in culture. We see how we come together as a community in East Brunswick," he said.

Zimbicki thanked residents for their votes and promised to work for all. "For all those who did not vote for me, I hope you find comfort in knowing that I take this position very seriously. I will continue to learn, listen and lionize all concerns," Zimbicki said.
