Gunpoint Robbery At East Brunswick Speedway; Local Man Arrested
An East Brunswick man has been arrested and was charged with robbing — at gunpoint — the Speedway gas station on Rt. 18 on March 1.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — An East Brunswick man has been arrested and was charged with robbing — at gunpoint — the Speedway gas station on Rt. 18 on March 1.
The armed robbery occurred at 10:45 p.m. that Sunday, when police were called to the Speedway at 234 Highway 18 for a report of an armed robbery. The gas station attendant described the suspect as a man with a slim build, approximately 5'8", wearing boots, red pants, a black hooded sweatshirt and a black mask.
He said the suspect walked in minutes prior and approached the counter. The man lifted up his shirt revealing what appeared to be a handgun in his waistband and advised the employee to give him the money.

The employee complied and handed the suspect the money, who then fled the area.
East Brunswick police and the Hillsborough police dog searched the area and could not find him. However, they found evidence from the armed robbery discovered in a remote area behind the gas station.

Subsequent investigation by Detective Crispin Farrace identified the suspect as Mohammed Alasmar, 25, of East Brunswick. Alasmar was taken into custody on Friday, March 6 and charged with robbery and multiple weapons charges.
He was remanded to the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center in lieu of a detention hearing.
