October is going to be a great month at the East Brunswick Public library. Come by for a fantastic concert put on by more than a dozen harpers, explore the culture, history and music of Puerto Rico, or sign up for one of our many computer training courses.

Unlocking Your Body’s Energy for Power and Healing
Thursday, Oct. 2 * 7 to 9 p.m.

A bold, entertaining, and interactive presentation by local wellness expert, Dr. Ken Freedman. From his 35 years of practice experience, he will share how you can remove barriers and find your inherent power to self-heal and bulletproof yourself against stress. You will learn how to see your body in a new way, and receive transformational wellness tools to improve your quality of life and longevity.

East Brunswick Roots Project: PUERTO RICO, the 51st State?
Thursday, Oct. 9 * 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Explore the political structure of Puerto Rico within a historical context, discussing questions and issues on P.R. citizens’ rights and addressing whether statehood is in the best interests of Puerto Rico and/or the U.S. Sponsored by The New Jersey Council for the Humanities.

Saturday Senior Socials
Saturday, Oct. 11 * 1 p.m.
Seniors and their caregivers are welcome!
Galina Markovich, an adult nurse practitioner, will lead this new series that will give seniors and their caregivers a chance to mingle and have some fun. Refreshments will be served.

Harper’s Escape
Sunday, Oct. 12 8 1:30 to 3 p.m.
The delicate sound of the harp can be soothing and wonderful. Just imagine what it will be like when more than two dozen harpers perform at the East Brunswick Public Library.

20 and 30somethings Table Top Game Night is a night of fantastic table top gaming exclusively for 20 and 30somethings! Bring your own game or play one provided by the library. Snacks will be provided!

East Brunswick Roots Project: Jose Obando Salsa Trio
Sunday, Oct. 19 * 2 to 4 p.m.
BRUNSWICK ROOTS PROJECT: PUERTO RICO
Join us for a discussion about the origins of salsa among New York’s East Puerto Rican immigrants. The talk will explore the Puerto Rican folkloric genres plena and bomba, the evolution of salsa and Afro-Caribbean influences on salsa. Enjoy a performance by the José Obando Salso Trio.

World Party! Short Story Discussion Group

Short stories are popular the world over - so join us for a new discussion group with a focus on multicultural authors and stories. Every other month we’ll be meeting to discuss an individual story. Girls-Only Book Club!

Come get in the spooky spirit and binge watch cheesy and scary movies with your friends! Snack on Halloween themed refreshments and make some fun and spooky crafts!

The Geek League

Monday, Oct. 27 * 6 to 8 p.m.

Stop by and have the tech savvy teens of the East Brunswick Public Library’s “Geek League” help you with that tricky new gadget. Teens in the Geek League are available to help create an email or Facebook account and answer other basic computer questions. They are there to coach adults to be more comfortable with electronic gadgets such as cell phones and ereaders. Just bring your gadget and any manuals and cords it comes with.

Final Cut Pro Workshops

Tuesday, Oct. 9 * 8 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 25 * 12 p.m.
EBPLay, the Library’s media lab, includes five Mac computer work stations, all with Final Cut Pro, digital editing software, so that patrons of all ages can edit and produce their own movie masterpieces. This workshop is designed to introduce beginners on how to use the software. The workshop is free and limited to 10 people.

Funding for the EBPlay Media Lab was provided by the New Jersey State Library and LibraryLinkNJ, the New Jersey Library Cooperative whose services are funded by the New Jersey State Library, which is responsible for the coordination, promotion, and funding of the New Jersey Library Network.

Sign Up Now for Computer Training Courses

Courses in September include offerings for beginners to experts. Classes are two hours long and limited to 12 students each

All Intro and Level 1 Courses are Free. There is a $10 fee for all others. Fees will be added to a cardholder’s account and paid for at the Circulation desk. Non-cardholders will be charged $15 and must pay at the time of registration.
