Illegal Guns Found In Three East Brunswick Traffic Stops: Police
Guns were recovered in three separate but unrelated car stops in East Brunswick in the month of January, according to East Brunswick police.
EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — Guns were recovered in three separate but unrelated car stops in East Brunswick in the month of January, East Brunswick police said Wednesday in their latest police blotter.
At 10:50 p.m. on Jan. 2, East Brunswick police stopped a car near the intersection of Old Bridge Turnpike and Edgeboro Road. The officer said he recovered a loaded 9 mm silver handgun, with hollow-point bullets, and drug paraphernalia. Jaki Hooks-Lewis, of Somerset, was also found with a dark-colored ski mask, said police. Hooks-Lewis was charged with unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of hollow-point bullets, possession of drug paraphernalia and for being a person who is not permitted to posses a weapon.
On Jan. 7, East Brunswick police stopped a car on Summerhill Road near Arthur Street. Upon detecting an odor of marijuana coming from the car, a search of the car revealed a plastic bag of raw marijuana, three THC vape mouthpieces and a Ruger Bearcat 22-caliber handgun. The driver, Kylee Harms of East Brunswick, passenger Taliyah Massaro of Passaic and passenger Joseph Zeller of East Brunswick, were all placed under arrest. All three were charged with possession of marijuana under 50 grams. Zeller was also charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of stolen property.

In the final incident, at 2:35 a.m. on Jan. 17, police again stopped a car on Summerhill Road near Arthur Street. After smelling marijuana, a search of the car revealed one pound of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, $671 in cash and a loaded 9mm handgun, said police. Jameer Outsey of Somerville was arrested and charged with weapons charges, as well as possession of more than 50 grams of marijuana and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
For the month of January 2020, there were 1,658 East Brunswick police reports generated, 319 medical calls reported, 179 car accidents and 104 total arrests made, with 13 DWI arrests made.
