‘Just Eat It: A Food Waste Story’ Film and Discussion Nov. 6
Award-winning documentary looks at the consequences of billions of dollars of wasted food

“Just Eat It: A Food Waste Story,” an award-winning documentary about food waste and its devastating consequences around the globe, will be screened at the East Brunswick Public Library at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 6. A facilitated discussion will follow.
The program is free and open to the public. Children 8 and older are welcome.
In their film, food lovers and filmmakers Jen Rustemeyer and Grant Baldwin dive into the issue of waste from the farm through retail to the back of their own fridge. Finding that 50 percent – billions of dollars worth -- of food is tossed in the trash each year in North America, they pledge to quit grocery shopping cold turkey and survive only on foods that would otherwise be thrown away.

The 2014 Canadian documentary has won nearly 20 awards since its release in 2014. In its review, Variety noted: “… Baldwin and Rustemeyer have drawn attention to an important, overlooked issue, and taught by example that a difference can be made, simply by tweaking rather than revolutionizing one’s lifestyle.”
The program is part of the Option Green lecture series presented by the Friends of the East Brunswick Environmental Commission in partnership with the library. Friends EBEC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to conservation and environmental education. Membership is free and open to all township residents.
