Meet Board of Education Candidate- Wesam Berjaoui

New Faces brings new ideas and creativity to the Board of Education and improves our children's education.

I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. Education was a priority in my family, and I benefited from excellent instruction in both public and private schools. School was not only the place where I learned reading, writing, arithmetic, science, and history; it was also the place that helped shape my values and character. School was my home away from home. Without the sacrifices made and the attention given to me by teachers and administrators, I would not be the citizen I am today, and I would not have been blessed with many opportunities in life. I am grateful for everything they did for me, and I am committed to ensuring that all of the children of East Brunswick have the same opportunity to receive a high-quality public education.

After graduating college, I decided to move to New Jersey in order to provide a better quality of life for my family. The public school system in New Jersey has a reputation for being one of the best in the country, and this excellent reputation was a primary factor in my decision. As a Board of Education member, I want to continue the tradition of excellent public education in East Brunswick and help improve it in areas that require further attention.

I am blessed with my wife and three wonderful children. My kids keep me motivated and active, and are a continual source of inspiration. I find myself constantly seeking ways to prepare them to tackle life's challenges and maximize their potential. Although my children are raised in the same home, I have learned each child is unique and has his or her own ways of learning. Similarly, although the children of East Brunswick attend the same schools, each child is different and approaches learning in a different way. I believe that as parents and educators, it is our responsibility to cultivate each child’s individual skills and give them the right tools to succeed.

I will work hard and tirelessly to do what is best for both our students and staff. My professional background in finance and as a Director of Sales at a financial institution along with my volunteer work at a youth correctional facility has given me the experience and skills need to contribute meaningfully to the Board of Education. There are 9 members on the Board of Education and three of those seats are up for voting this election. While the current incumbents have served honorably with some contributing for 18 years it is time for new faces and new ideas to bring to our students and facilities. Many of the facilities are falling apart with constant leaks, some with mold and others still without air conditioning in this day in age, not to mention the lack of technology in the school. We have fallen behind in many third party surveys and standardized testing. With the size of the budget afforded to the East Brunswick Board of Education we can do better and I hope with your vote and support for me I will be elected and be able to impact our children's lives in a positive and productive manner. Vote Wesam Berjaoui on Nov. 6th for Board of Education. Thank you!
